Uber and Waymo are ending exclusivity in Atlanta and Austin after already unwinding Phoenix, while Waymo vehicles remain on Uber’s app in both cities for now.
Waymo and Uber have dissolved their exclusivity agreement in Atlanta and Austin, further loosening a robotaxi partnership that had already ended in Phoenix. Waymo’s autonomous vehicles will still appear on the Uber app in both cities for now, but Uber no longer has sole rights to service the fleet through its platform. The companies began working together in 2023 with a limited pilot in Phoenix. They expanded the relationship on September 13, 2024, giving Uber exclusive rights to service Waymo’s self-driving fleet in Austin and Atlanta, including rider logistics and vehicle maintenance. Uber launched Waymo service in Austin in March 2025 and in Atlanta in June 2025. By mid-2025, about 100 Waymo vehicles were operating in Austin, and the fleet was still growing. Riders in Austin gave the service a 4.9-star rating. Phoenix has already shifted back to Waymo’s own operation, with the exclusivity arrangement there confirmed to end around late June 2026. Analysts project the broader unwinding of the Uber-Waymo partnership could be completed by the first quarter of 2027.
