The retailer said the funding is part of a broader response that includes grants, gift cards, donated supplies and on-site services for communities hit by severe flooding.
Walmart and the Walmart Foundation said they are committing $500,000 to support immediate needs, cleanup efforts and relief in West Virginia communities affected by severe flooding. The broader response also includes grants, gift cards, and truckloads of donated food, water and other essential items distributed through organizations including the Mountaineer Food Bank and the Buckhannon Fire Department. Walmart said disaster relief operations at its Buckhannon Supercenter are providing hot meals with Operation BBQ Relief, along with bottled water, donated cleaning supplies and laundry services. A donation center in Weston is also offering hot meals, bottled water, mobile shower and drop-off laundry services, Wi-Fi, hotspot access and charging stations for affected residents. The company said it is coordinating with nonprofit groups, emergency management officials and local leaders as needs evolve. Walmart said the relief work is being supported by Operation BBQ Relief, ITDRC, Matthew 25: Ministries, Tide Loads of Hope and Procter & Gamble.
