Coinbase’s agent product links AI assistants such as ChatGPT and Claude to user accounts, allowing preset crypto trades and portfolio rebalancing based on price-drop thresholds.
Coinbase said users can tell an AI agent to buy ETH after a 5% decline, turning a plain-language instruction into a rule-based limit order that its systems monitor and execute within parameters set by the user. The feature is part of Coinbase for Agents, which connects assistants such as ChatGPT and Claude to Coinbase accounts so they can trade crypto, access market data and, eventually, make payments autonomously. Coinbase’s launch materials also described broader rebalancing instructions tied to 5%, 10% or 15% market drops, including a sample target allocation of 60% BTC, 20% ETH and 20% SOL. The company said the system uses the same WebSocket data that powers institutional desks, while agent payments remain subject to transaction monitoring and KYT checks. The feature frames automated trading as user-defined execution rather than discretionary decision-making by the agent, though fixed drop triggers do not guarantee profitable outcomes if prices continue to fall after an order is filled.
