The company said the inaugural weekend in 1-Ounce Gold futures generated about $60 million in notional value, highlighting demand for always-on regulated metals trading.
CME Group said nearly 15,000 1-Ounce Gold futures contracts traded during the first weekend of its new 24/7 trading schedule, equal to about $60 million in notional value. The launch extends access to regulated futures markets through the weekend for a product the exchange positions as a smaller-sized gold contract. Jin Hennig, Managing Director and Global Head of Metals at CME Group, said the debut showed retail traders were prepared for continuous access to regulated products to manage gold exposure, while Adam Hickerson, Senior Director and Chief Operating Officer of Robinhood Derivatives, said the offering gives customers round-the-clock access to regulated futures from any timezone. CME Group said its benchmark gold franchise has averaged a record $125 billion in daily notional trading this year, while the 1-Ounce Gold futures contract, launched in January 2025, posted 87,000 contracts in average daily volume in the first half of 2026. The exchange also said its metals business reached a first-half 2026 record of 1.3M contracts traded daily, up 55% year on year, driven by precious metals activity.
