The gauge tracks whether top 100 non-stablecoin tokens have outperformed Bitcoin over 90 days, with 75% outperformance typically marking altcoin season.
CoinMarketCap’s Altcoin Season Index fell to 52, down four points from the previous day’s 56. The metric compares Bitcoin’s price performance with that of the top 100 coins by market capitalization, excluding stablecoins and wrapped coins, over a 90-day period. CoinNess said altcoin season is identified when 75% of those top 100 coins post returns above Bitcoin’s over the same window, while the reverse is considered Bitcoin season. A higher reading, closer to 100, signals stronger altcoin season conditions.
