Türkiye says Turkish Petroleum won Kirkuk stake as Iraq discusses 1 million bpd supply
Erdogan said Turkish Petroleum would take a 15% stake in BP Energy Company of Kirkuk Limited, while Ankara and Baghdad also signed five accords on transport, infrastructure, education, industrial property, and youth and sports.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Turkish Petroleum secured a partnership in Iraq’s Kirkuk oilfield through a planned 15% stake in BP Energy Company of Kirkuk Limited, and said Iraq may supply Türkiye with up to 1 million barrels per day of oil. The announcement came during Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi’s visit to Ankara, where the two sides also signed five agreements covering transportation, infrastructure development, education, industrial property, and youth and sports. Erdogan said the countries are seeking broader energy cooperation after the Iraq-Türkiye crude oil agreement expired on July 27, while also discussing security, counterterrorism, regional developments, and the Development Road Project.
