Summary

SBI Holdings is broadening its institutional blockchain strategy by restructuring a wholly owned subsidiary around the Canton Network, while maintaining its existing work with Ripple and the XRP Ledger. The company said SBI Security Solutions changed its name to SBI Digital Practice Co. Ltd., effective June 22, and the unit will serve as SBI’s dedicated on-chain finance business specializing in Canton-based financial infrastructure and applications for institutional clients. Based in Roppongi, Tokyo, and led by representative director Ryo Shimotsu, the subsidiary will provide implementation support, regulatory compliance and transaction systems across countries and currencies. SBI said it expects more financial products and transactions to move onto blockchain networks and aims to help banks and other financial institutions adopt the technology within local regulatory frameworks. The company also said it participates in Canton as a Super Validator. The move expands rather than replaces SBI’s long-standing relationship with Ripple. SBI and Ripple formed SBI Ripple Asia in 2016 to promote Ripple-based payment infrastructure across Asia-Pacific, and SBI Ripple Asia has continued to develop XRP Ledger services including a token issuance platform designed for Japanese regulatory requirements. Canton is positioned for a different part of SBI’s strategy, focused on institutional financial infrastructure, cross-border securities and privacy-sensitive transaction systems, underscoring a broader multichain approach. That approach has widened this month through other tokenization initiatives. SBI Global Asset Management partnered with DigiFT to launch the SBI Japan High Dividend Equity Strategy Token, or JX token, on Solana for eligible institutional and accredited investors. SBI also agreed with Ondo Finance to tokenize Japanese equities and use its yen-backed JPYSC stablecoin for settlement and collateral, with Ondo Global Markets (BVI) Limited set to issue the products. Separately, SBI acquired a majority stake in Singapore exchange Coinhako on July 16 after approval from the Monetary Authority of Singapore. SBI said Canton connects more than 600 institutions, including Goldman Sachs, BNP Paribas, Franklin Templeton, Broadridge and Euroclear, and supports over $6 trillion in assets. The network also gives SBI a link to U.S. Treasury tokenization through DTCC and Digital Asset’s plans to bring a subset of Treasury securities held at the Depository Trust Company onto Canton, with a controlled production launch targeted in the first half of 2026 and broader rollout dependent on demand. SBI has not disclosed customers, launch dates or revenue targets for the new subsidiary.
