METLEN signs deal for about 25% of planned annual gallium output in Greece

The confidential long-term supply agreement is billed as the first major commercial gallium deal between a European producer and a leading U.S. technology company.

Summary

METLEN said it has entered a long-term commercial agreement to supply approximately 25% of the annual gallium production from its planned facility in Greece, in what it described as the first major commercial gallium supply deal between a European producer and a leading U.S. technology company. The company said the terms are confidential. The agreement is positioned as a strategic step for Europe’s critical raw materials supply chain, where gallium is used in AI technology, advanced renewables infrastructure, telecommunications and defence solutions. With global production heavily concentrated, alternative sources are increasingly viewed as strategically important for industrial economies. METLEN said it is the first company in Europe to establish integrated gallium production and the first to secure a commercial agreement for European-produced gallium. The project has already been recognized by the European Commission as a Strategic Project under the Critical Raw Materials Act (CRMA) and has also secured European Investment Bank (EIB) financing approval under the REPowerEU framework. Executive Chairman Evangelos Mytilineos said the company’s teams at Aluminium of Greece developed the new production capability and that the material has already undergone extensive qualification testing. METLEN, which is listed in London and Athens and is part of the FTSE 100 Index, reported 2025 revenue of €7.11 billion, EBITDA of €753 million and net profit of €314 million.
