Lockton launches global data centers and digital infrastructure practice

The privately held insurance broker said the new consulting unit will advise owners, operators, developers and investors on construction, cyber and operational risks tied to AI, cloud and digital connectivity infrastructure.

Summary

Lockton has launched its Global Data Centers and Digital Infrastructure Practice, a consulting offering focused on risk management for the infrastructure that stores, processes and transfers information worldwide. The firm said the practice is built on its experience supporting complex digital infrastructure risks globally, including hyperscale campuses, multi-building developments, phased construction programs, operating portfolios and energy-related infrastructure. The new unit is designed to serve a broad set of clients across the ecosystem, including owners, operators, developers, investors, hyperscalers and technology providers. Lockton said the practice combines risk strategy, analytics, engineering insight and market expertise in a single advisory model, supporting clients from project planning and site selection through construction, operational launch, portfolio expansion and ongoing risk management. Its offerings will be tailored to individual clients, but Lockton said the practice includes proprietary products and solutions covering construction and property risks, errors and omissions (professional liability for service failures), service-level agreements (contracted performance commitments), environmental risks, cybersecurity, surety bonds (guarantees of contractual performance) and other exposures. Tim Ryan, presidente de Lockton en Estados Unidos, said data centers are central to the modern economy and that the risk environment around them has become more interconnected, capital-intensive and time-sensitive. Chris Brown, consejero delegado de Lockton International, said the global data center and digital infrastructure market is evolving at an extraordinary pace and that Lockton's independent model allows it to assemble global expertise and provide advice beyond traditional insurance placement. The practice will be led by James Nelson in the United States and Sam Baker in the United Kingdom, working with Lockton leaders globally on overall strategy. Lockton said Nelson most recently served as global client relationship director at Eldin Risk and previously held roles at Marsh, Cerberus Capital and Alvarez & Marsal. Baker has spent 13 years at Lockton and has recently helped build the firm's proprietary data center product offering. Lockton says its nearly 15,000 associates operate in more than 180 countries.
