The nonprofit said more than 100 supporters joined its first raise as the Ethereum Foundation added Pascal Coversacchio to its board, underscoring a dual focus on institutional adoption and security.
Ethereum Institutional said it has closed its inaugural funding round with participation from more than 100 organizations and individuals, as the Ethereum Foundation appointed Pascal Coversacchio to its board in a parallel governance move that highlights the ecosystem’s push on institutional adoption and security. The nonprofit, launched in early July 2026 and founded by David Walsh, Matthew Dawson and Marius Smith, is positioning itself as a neutral entry point for banks, asset managers, custodians and sovereign institutions evaluating Ethereum-based tokenization, stablecoins and onchain infrastructure. The total raised was not disclosed. The funding round was led by BitMine, SharpLink, Ethereum co-founder Joe Lubin and Mihai Alisie, with participants including 21Shares, Aave, Circle, Curve Finance, Robinhood, Uniswap Labs, Securitize and ENS Labs. Ethereum Institutional said it plans to help companies implement Ethereum, promote use cases and identify priority areas for institutional engagement. Separately, the Ethereum Foundation named Coversacchio, co-founder of emergency crypto security service SEAL 911, as the fourth member of its board alongside President Aya Miyaguchi, co-founder Vitalik Buterin and Swiss lawyer Patrick Storchenegger. Coversacchio, known for authoring the “Ethereum Cypherpunk Manifesto” and serving on the advisory board of the Silviculture Society, was appointed for an initial one-year voluntary term as the foundation deepens its emphasis on privacy and security following a June restructuring that cut 20% of staff and reorganized work around five R&D units. ETH was little changed after the developments, trading around $1,930, up 1.3% at the time of publication. The announcements come as institutional engagement with Ethereum continues to build, with the source citing $103.9 million of inflows into spot Ethereum funds during the week of July 20-24, exceeding US spot bitcoin ETFs over that period.
