Rentomojo highlights wardrobe and sofa rentals in major Indian metros

Company releases pitch monthly furniture subscriptions from ₹253 to ₹1,890 as an alternative to buying bulky, fast-depreciating items in relocation-heavy urban rental markets.

Summary

Rentomojo said wardrobe and sofa rentals are gaining traction across several Indian cities in 2026 as tenants weigh monthly subscriptions against the upfront cost, relocation expense, maintenance burden and low resale value of furniture ownership. In its Bangalore catalogue, the company listed wardrobe plans from ₹256 a month for a one-door variant, with two- and three-door options around ₹559, while sofa plans start at ₹253 a month for a one-seater, around ₹753 for a three-seater and ₹1,890 for L-shape configurations. The company said demand is concentrated in relocation-heavy neighbourhoods including Powai, Andheri, Bandra and Thane in Mumbai; HITEC City, Gachibowli, Madhapur, Financial District and Kondapur in Hyderabad; Whitefield, Koramangala, HSR Layout and Electronic City in Bangalore; OMR, Velachery, Adyar, Porur and Anna Nagar in Chennai; and Cyber City, Golf Course Road and Sohna Road in Gurgaon. Rentomojo contrasted rental pricing with July 2026 e-commerce purchase ranges of ₹15,000 to ₹45,000 for wardrobes and ₹25,000 to ₹65,000 for sofas, plus moving, repair or reupholstery costs and resale recovery of only 10% to 15% in typical cases. Rentomojo said subscriptions include professional assembly, a 2.54-day average delivery network, minimum tenure from three to 36 months, free repairs, annual maintenance, free relocation and advance-payment discounts of up to 15%. Customers can book through the app or website, pay by card, UPI or net-banking, and in some cases swap furniture configurations during an active plan. The company cited its March 2026 draft red herring prospectus, which described Rentomojo as India’s largest tech-driven full-stack direct-to-consumer rental platform by FY25 subscription revenue and live subscribers, operating in 22 cities with 227,511 live subscribers and an in-house team of 1,688 technicians, carpenters and painters.
