Hackers briefly commandeered Senator Cynthia Lummis’ verified X account early on July 30 and used it to promote a fake Solana meme coin called $USA Token before the post was removed within about five minutes. The message linked to pump.fun, a platform that lets users quickly launch Solana meme coins, fitting a now-familiar scam pattern in which attackers seize a verified account, tout a newly created token and delete the post before control is restored. Lummis’ office had not confirmed the compromise at the time of the report. The incident is the latest in a string of account takeovers used to promote fraudulent crypto tokens through prominent X profiles.
