Zooko Wilcox said users can independently verify the privacy coin’s circulating supply, while Boston Zcash said migration to Ironwood is not the right test for overissuance.
Zcash founder Zooko Wilcox rejected claims that ZEC’s supply may have been secretly increased, saying users can already verify the current total locally at 16,848,458 coins without waiting months. As Zcash moves from Orchard to Ironwood, Boston Zcash said a full migration of Orchard funds would not be the correct way to test for overissuance because the protocol’s carousel design means 100% of those funds will never move, including because some private keys have been lost. The comments push back on the idea that supply changes in the privacy-focused cryptocurrency could occur outside its public verification process.
