Samsung SDS explores stablecoins and AI-based payments with Dunamu

Samsung SDS says its Dunamu stake is strategic as the companies discuss stablecoin rails, digital-asset systems and AI-based payment models after end-to-end stablecoin testing and tokenized securities work.

Summary

Samsung SDS said it is in active talks with Dunamu, the operator of South Korea’s largest cryptocurrency exchange Upbit, to build stablecoin infrastructure, digital-asset systems and AI-based payment business models as it deepens its push into digital finance. On its second-quarter earnings call, CEO Lee Jun-hee said Samsung SDS has completed end-to-end validation of the stablecoin process from issuance to settlement and pointed to its work on the Korea Securities Depository’s tokenized securities platform as evidence of its digital-asset infrastructure capabilities. Lee said the relationship with Dunamu is a strategic priority rather than a passive financial investment, with the companies aiming to develop concrete business models by combining Samsung SDS’s cloud, security and IT capabilities with Dunamu’s blockchain experience. The comments build on the group’s May 2026 investment in Dunamu, when Samsung SDS, Samsung Securities and Samsung Card agreed to acquire a combined 4% stake. The update came shortly after Samsung Electronics said Samsung Wallet would add stablecoin support, suggesting a broader push across Samsung businesses from consumer wallet functions to back-end rails for digital payments and tokenized financial services. Samsung SDS reported second-quarter revenue of 3.72 trillion won ($2.6 billion), up 5.9% from a year earlier. Cloud revenue rose 17%, external cloud business revenue jumped 75%, and the company said it plans to expand AI infrastructure capacity from 110 megawatts to 230 megawatts by 2029, with capacity expected to exceed 800 megawatts by 2031.
