The Canadian digital asset manager will oversee an undisclosed portion of Gelephu Mindfulness City’s Bitcoin holdings as the project develops a digital offshore financial hub.
3iQ has been appointed to manage an undisclosed portion of the Bitcoin treasury allocated to Bhutan’s Gelephu Mindfulness City, marking the next phase of the special administrative region’s plan to use sovereign crypto holdings to support its development as a digital-asset investment hub. The mandate follows Bhutan’s plan to allocate as many as 10,000 Bitcoin from the country’s holdings to fund Gelephu’s development by December 2025. Neither side disclosed how much Bitcoin will be placed under management, how the assets will be held, or whether the mandate allows lending, derivatives or other yield-generation strategies. 3iQ CEO Pascal St-Jean said the firm would manage the assets responsibly and transparently with a long-term perspective using institutional-grade investment principles. Gelephu board director Jigdril Singye described 3iQ as one of the city’s founding institutional partners. The two organizations said additional milestones would be announced as Gelephu works to establish itself as a digital offshore financial hub focused on innovation, sustainability and institutional asset management.
