A joint operation with utility TNB in Tronoh led to two arrests after officers said the mining setup used unauthorized power connections at three properties.
Malaysian police raided three properties in Tronoh, arrested two men and seized 73 Bitcoin mining machines in a joint operation with Tenaga Nasional Berhad after investigators said the sites were using stolen electricity. Batu Gajah district police chief Assistant Commissioner Md Noor Aehawan Mohammad said the Tuesday night raids were carried out under Op Elektrik with the district Criminal Investigation Department and TNB's technical unit. Police said inspections found the properties had been used for Bitcoin mining and that technical checks confirmed illegal electricity connections, with the suspects, aged 40 and 52, remanded for three days from Wednesday to Friday. The case is being investigated under Section 427 of Malaysia's Penal Code and Section 37(1) of the Electricity Supply Act 1990, adding to a string of Malaysian crackdowns on illicit crypto mining linked to power theft.
