Yield Guild Games shuts YGG Play after July 6 wind-down plan

The web3 publishing unit went offline Friday after YGG said the closure would cut 35 jobs, extend runway to four years and redirect resources to AI gaming datasets.

Summary

Yield Guild Games has shut down YGG Play, its web3 game publishing arm, after co-founder Gabby Dizon confirmed on Friday that the service was ending that day. The closure follows a July 6 announcement that YGG would sunset the unit, affecting 35 jobs, while keeping the main Yield Guild operation running. YGG had said LOL Land, Waifu Sweeper and the YGG Play platform would remain available until July 31 before going offline, with departing staff receiving eight additional weeks of pay. The company said the move is part of a broader shift away from an unprofitable publishing business and toward the AI data economy, beginning with a business-to-business pipeline focused on gaming datasets. YGG framed that strategy as a return to working with its player community, but this time producing behavioral data for AI labs instead of earning yield from game assets. As of the end of the first quarter, YGG said it held a treasury of $20.6 million, including $6.2 million in stablecoins, Treasury bills and large-cap tokens, and that closing the unit extended its operating runway to four years. The guild said the shutdown reflects market conditions rather than product performance, citing the October 10, 2025 liquidation cascade and the weaker environment that followed. It added that YGG Play had crossed $9 million in lifetime revenue by the end of the first quarter of 2026, but that it does not expect the crypto consumer market or the web3 games publishing market to recover sufficiently in the near term. YGG said YGGPlay.fun, the Launchpad, the unit's social accounts, Community Questing at community.yggplay.fun, LOL Land and Waifu Sweeper are retired, and marketing support for third-party games has ended. The web3 versions of GIGACHADBAT and Ragnarok Breaker will continue under Delabs Games and Planetarium Labs, with the transition completing by August 1. YGG traded near $0.0178 on Friday, up 1.77% over 24 hours and down 1.68% on the week, leaving the token with a $14.17 million circulating market capitalization and a $17.79 million fully diluted valuation, about 99.8% below its November 2021 peak.
