BTCBOX to partially resume services from Aug. 3 after January suspension

The Japan-based crypto platform plans a phased restart after a months-long shutdown, adding mandatory passkey logins, two-factor authentication for yen withdrawals and warning users about phishing risks.

Summary

BTCBOX said it will begin partially restoring services suspended since late January, starting with logins and cryptocurrency deposits at 10:00 a.m. on August 3. The platform said passkey authentication will be mandatory for login, while Japanese yen withdrawals are scheduled to resume at 10:00 a.m. on August 10 with two-factor authentication newly required. Crypto withdrawals, exchange services and simple trading are set to return gradually from September onward after safety checks are completed. The company said no unauthorized outflows or losses of customer assets have been confirmed, that crypto assets are kept in cold wallets, and that yen deposits under custody are fully placed in trust with JSF Trust & Banking. The phased restart follows a shutdown that began on January 28, later disclosures that some customer information had leaked externally in January, and a reporting order from Japan's Financial Services Agency's Kanto Finance Bureau under the Payment Services Act.
