The new 30-second and 60-second averaged price feeds aim to make DeFi and prediction market settlement harder to manipulate than single-snapshot pricing.
Chainlink has launched Time-Weighted Average Price, or TWAP, feeds on mainnet, adding averaged pricing data designed to be more resistant to market manipulation than single-point settlement prices. The feeds went live at about 19:55 UTC on July 31 in two versions, with 30-second and 60-second averaging windows. The new feeds are available through Chainlink Data Streams, letting developers with existing credentials begin integrating them immediately. Documentation, feed IDs and SDK examples are available through data.chain.link and Polymarket’s developer resources, and pricing starts at $150 per month for select feeds. Polymarket is the first major adopter and plans to move its crypto up/down markets to TWAP-based settlement starting August 7 at 00:00 UTC. Under that setup, 30-second TWAP feeds will be used for 5-minute markets, while 60-second feeds will support 15-minute and 4-hour markets. Polymarket is also set to launch a separate Real-Time Data Streaming WebSocket on August 4, creating another route for developers to access the feeds. Until full RTDS delivery is live, feed adjustments could still be made, making the period before August 4 a final calibration window. The shift addresses a common weakness in DeFi and prediction markets: single-snapshot settlement can be gamed if traders briefly move prices at the exact moment a market closes. TWAP reduces that risk by averaging prices over a set interval, forcing any would-be manipulator to maintain distorted pricing across the whole window. To support the transition, Polymarket is offering $1 million in liquidity incentives across affected markets throughout August. Testnet versions of the feeds were previously available before the mainnet rollout.
