Factory activity expanded for a seventh straight month, with new orders rising at the fastest pace in four-and-a-half years and employment increasing solidly.
The S&P Global Japan Manufacturing PMI (purchasing managers' index) was revised lower to 54.5 in July 2026 from the preliminary estimate of 54.7, after a final 54.8 reading in June. The figure still pointed to a seventh consecutive month of expansion in factory activity, helped by a faster increase in output. New orders grew at the quickest pace in four-and-a-half years, while employment also rose solidly.
