The Hang Seng Index edged up 0.4%, or 94 points, to 25,978 on Monday as global markets firmed on optimism that renewed US-Iran talks could ease Middle East tensions. Oil prices declined and US equity-index futures advanced after US President Donald Trump said fresh negotiations with Iran would begin on Monday, reviving hopes that pressure around the Strait of Hormuz could eventually ease. In Hong Kong, Financial Secretary Paul Chan signaled the government is expected to raise its 2026 GDP growth forecast later this month after stronger-than-expected economic performance, and the launch of offshore China Government Bond Futures underscored the city’s role as an international financial hub. Among notable movers were Tencent, Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation, Kuaishou, Lenovo and Shenzhen Xunce.
