The Trump-linked, Hut 8-backed bitcoin miner said its interim CFO will shift to AI and power infrastructure as competition and margin pressure push miners toward data center and energy plays.
American Bitcoin said President and interim Chief Financial Officer Matt Prusak will leave on Aug. 4 and join Giga Energy as chief business officer and interim CFO. Prusak said that after spending years building bitcoin businesses, he is moving upstream into power infrastructure to focus on constraints limiting both bitcoin mining and AI computing. The company, founded with Eric Trump’s involvement and backed by Hut 8, is a Nasdaq-listed bitcoin miner where Prusak had helped drive its bitcoin accumulation strategy by expanding hash rate and increasing BTC holdings per share. Houston-based Giga Energy said it has delivered more than 6.5 gigawatts of power infrastructure and is developing more than 500 megawatts of AI-ready data center capacity. The move reflects a broader shift in which bitcoin miners, facing tougher competition and squeezed margins, are using their access to power, land and data center expertise to expand into AI infrastructure as hyperscalers race to secure electricity and capacity.
