Kakao Pay reported record second-quarter revenue, operating profit and net profit as payments, financial services and platform operations all grew, while Kakao Pay Securities posted a sharp earnings improvement.
Kakao Pay posted record quarterly earnings in the second quarter, with consolidated net profit rising 251% from a year earlier to 49.6 billion won, surpassing the previous high of 34.7 billion won set in the first quarter. Revenue increased 40.6% year over year to 335.1 billion won and operating profit climbed 528% to 58.6 billion won, both also quarterly records. The company said balanced growth across payments, financial services and platform operations drove the result, marking a third consecutive quarter of double-digit expansion in all three divisions. Payments showed the strongest momentum, with monthly average offline payment users topping 6 million, up 21% from a year earlier, quarterly transaction volume reaching 150 million transactions, and sales from external merchants in online payments rising 22%. Kakao Pay Securities also delivered a strong earnings recovery. The brokerage subsidiary recorded first-half operating profit of 63.1 billion won, exceeding its full-year 2024 operating profit of 42.8 billion won in six months and rising 407.2% from a year earlier. Its second-quarter operating profit reached 39.5 billion won, up 347.4% from 8.8 billion won a year earlier and 67.9% above the first quarter's 23.6 billion won. Growth in investor assets and trading customers underpinned the securities unit's performance. Total deposited assets at the end of the second quarter rose 279% year over year, stock and pension assets increased 391%, and net investor fund inflows into domestic and global equity markets totaled 4.8 trillion won. The conversion rate of Kakao Pay users into active stock trading investors exceeded 30%, up 20 percentage points from the same period last year.
