Goods imports drove the $7.3 billion monthly decline as capital goods and pharmaceutical purchases fell, while services imports edged higher on intellectual property and transport charges.
US imports fell by $7.3 billion from the prior month, or 1.8%, to $388 billion in June 2026, marking the first monthly decline since January. The pullback was concentrated in goods, with imports down $7.9 billion to $309.0 billion. On a Census basis, goods imports fell $7.7 billion, led by weaker purchases of capital goods and consumer goods. A rise in telecommunications equipment imports partly offset those declines. Services imports moved in the opposite direction, rising $0.6 billion to $79.0 billion as higher charges for the use of intellectual property, transport and insurance outweighed a drop in travel.
