Cloudflare has opened cloudflare.pay handle reservations for AI agent identity and outlined wallet-based spending controls, adding the buy side to its x402-based agent commerce push as funding and payments remain pending.
Cloudflare has begun the first phase of Cloudflare Wallets by letting customers reserve cloudflare.pay handles tied to their accounts ahead of a broader stablecoin payments launch for AI agents. Funding, withdrawals and live x402 purchases are still forthcoming, while the company says Account Wallets and agent-focused Virtual Wallets will support controls such as allowances, approved merchant lists and maximum transaction sizes. The rollout adds the buy side to Cloudflare's Monetization Gateway, launched July 1, which lets websites and APIs charge AI agents over the same x402 payment rails. Together, the products are meant to support machine-to-machine commerce in which agents can both pay for and be charged for APIs, data and content without human approval for every low-value transaction. Payments are designed to run on x402, an open standard built around the HTTP 402 Payment Required status code. Cloudflare said the standard is now housed under the Linux Foundation alongside members including Stripe, Visa, Mastercard, Google, Amazon Web Services and Coinbase. Agent Economy data cited in the launch material showed x402 had settled 160.6 million transactions worth $41.2 million across seven chains, with average transaction value of about 26 cents and USDC as the dominant settlement asset. Cloudflare's wallet launch comes as large technology and payments groups race to build infrastructure for autonomous agent payments. AWS and Google Cloud introduced competing systems earlier this year, Circle launched an agent stack centered on USDC, and Visa and Mastercard have also developed their own agent-payment rails. Cloudflare argues its advantage is distribution through a network it says spans 337 cities and serves roughly one in five websites globally. Separately, the company has also released early-access Cloudflare OS, an open-source platform with Gatekeeper governance for enterprise agents.
