All nine publicly disclosed High-Flyer products lost more than 20% in July, with only one still marginally positive for the year as investors scrutinize the firm's CSI 500-focused quant strategies.
High-Flyer Quant, founded by Liang Wenfeng, suffered a steep setback in July as all nine of its publicly disclosed products posted single-month losses of more than 20%, according to Simuwang data cited by Time Weekly. By July 31, only Jiuzhang High-Flyer CSI 500 Quantitative Multi-Strategy No. 2 remained barely positive for the year with a 0.04% return, while the other eight had fallen into negative territory. The worst monthly performer was High-Flyer CSI 500 Quantitative Progressive No. 1, whose net asset value dropped 22.15% in July, and the weakest year-to-date result came from High-Flyer Quant Xinhua 500 Index Special No. 19 Phase 7, down 3.84% for the year. National Business Daily, also citing Simuwang, said similarly deep drawdowns hit multiple quantitative firms in July, showing the losses were not isolated to High-Flyer. The setback has drawn particular attention because High-Flyer is a leading Chinese quantitative private fund manager and Liang has increasingly focused on his AI startup DeepSeek, prompting renewed investor scrutiny over the resilience of the firm's CSI 500-centered quantitative enhancement and multi-strategy products during market style rotations and extreme conditions.
