Bitget data showed gold up 2.47% on Aug. 5 as the metal pushed toward a key $4,200 resistance level after the Federal Reserve left interest rates unchanged.
Spot gold rose $100 on Aug. 5 to $4,177.78 per ounce, up 2.47% on the day according to Bitget market data, as the metal rallied more than 2% intraday and approached a key $4,200 resistance level. Traders viewed the move as a possible technical breakout after gold spent July in a tight range, with repeated rebounds from $4,000 support pointing to a higher test after the Federal Reserve left interest rates unchanged. The metal remains more than 25% below its January peak. Bloomberg cited Goldman Sachs commodities researcher Samantha Dart as saying the backdrop for gold improved somewhat after the Fed meeting, while cautioning the market was not fully clear of risk. Longer term, a University of Cape Town study said gold's safe-haven role has weakened since the COVID-19 pandemic and become more sector-specific.
