The UK Department for Education said summer bulletins will focus on routine operational items, including academy accounts updates, revised apprenticeship funding rules and related support under the Growth and Skills Levy.
The UK Department for Education's DfE Update bulletin will move to an alternate-week publication schedule during the summer holidays to reduce communications, with editions carrying only routine operational information that may still be relevant to some recipients. The latest items include the academies chart of accounts for 2026 to 2027, updated apprenticeship funding documents for August 2026, refreshed apprenticeship guidance and templates, post-16 monitoring reports, essential digital skills standards and the inclusive early years fund for 2026 to 2027. The academy finance updates include revised account code guidance for academy trust finance staff and auditors, with webinars scheduled in August and September 2026 to explain the changes. The apprenticeship updates include version 3 of the apprenticeship funding rules for 2026 to 2027 and version 2 of the apprenticeship unit funding rules, plus revisions to related technical guides and materials. The wider apprenticeship package is linked to the Growth and Skills Levy, backed by £1 billion of additional investment announced in May 2026. From 1 August 2026, apprenticeship training will be fully funded for all eligible under-25 year olds. Employers can access up to £8,000 in support for SMEs hiring young apprentices, apprentices under 25 remain eligible for National Insurance contributions relief, and a bursary of up to £4,500 per year per household is intended to address a Universal Credit barrier affecting some families. The package also includes £287 million for more than 22,000 additional college and post-16 places across 87 projects, on top of the £9 billion already invested in 16 to 19 education for 2026 to 2027, with the measures aiming to deliver 50,000 new youth apprenticeships by the end of this Parliament.
