STERIS said it will invest $600 million to build a 600,000-square-foot manufacturing and distribution hub in North Carolina near the Raleigh-Durham Research Triangle, producing chemicals used in infection prevention and contamination control for healthcare and pharmaceutical customers. The site is expected to become operational in two to three years, with distribution beginning before manufacturing, and the company plans to shift existing chemicals operations there from St. Louis, Missouri, and Plymouth, Minnesota, once the project is complete. STERIS said the investment should create about 335 jobs across manufacturing, R&D and distribution, and that North Carolina was chosen after a review of several locations because of access to technical talent, with support from state and local economic development programs. The project follows the company's May forecast for fiscal 2027 profit above Wall Street expectations, supported by demand for its sterilization services.
