Protect Progress, a Fairshake-linked political action committee backed mainly by Coinbase and Ripple, spent more than $2 million backing Shri Thanedar and opposing Donavan McKinney.
Donavan McKinney defeated incumbent U.S. Representative Shri Thanedar in the Democratic primary for Michigan’s 13th Congressional District, even after more than $2 million in media spending by crypto-backed political action committee Protect Progress to support Thanedar’s reelection and oppose McKinney. As of Wednesday, McKinney had 51.9% of the vote versus 48.1% for Thanedar. Protect Progress is linked to Fairshake, a political action committee network backed mainly by crypto companies Coinbase and Ripple. Thanedar had voted in the House in favor of bills including the GENIUS Act and the CLARITY Act. McKinney will face Republican candidate Taras Nykoriak in the November election.
