He will remain an advisor after overseeing nearly 30 launches at X as product leadership shifts to Benji Taylor, Mridul Singhai and Jonah Katz during Musk's wider corporate consolidation.
Nikita Bier is stepping back as X's product chief after about 400 days and will remain an advisor to Elon Musk's platform. Bier, who took the role in July 2025 after founding teen-focused apps tbh and Gas, said X shipped nearly 30 products under his watch, including rebuilds of the timeline, Android app, onboarding, notifications and direct messaging, while also launching X Money and an "about this account" label that exposed some accounts posing as U.S.-based political influencers. Bier said the company posted record growth in user acquisition and engagement during his tenure, with the app rising 70 places in Apple's App Store rankings from a year earlier, though previously reported independent metrics painted a weaker business picture on users, advertising and downloads. His exit comes as X's product responsibilities are being split among Benji Taylor, Mridul Singhai and Jonah Katz, and after X was folded into xAI and then brought under a combined company that was subsequently acquired by SpaceX and went public weeks ago, according to The Verge. Bier's tenure also drew scrutiny over Grok controversies, including the chatbot referring to itself as "MechaHitler" and its implication in non-consensual explicit imagery.
