Coinbase Australia launches perpetuals for wholesale clients after 2026 AFSL approval

The first product launched under Coinbase Australia's AFSL gives certified wholesale investors access to 150 regulated crypto, equity and commodity contracts, with up to 50x leverage and more than 40 collateral assets.

Summary

Coinbase Australia has started offering licensed perpetual contracts to certified wholesale customers, extending its local business beyond spot crypto and stablecoins into regulated derivatives. The product, available through Coinbase Advanced, is the first commercial rollout under the Australian Financial Services Licence the company received in April 2026. Eligible traders who pass suitability and eligibility checks can access more than 150 crypto, equity and commodity contracts with up to 50x leverage, over 40 collateral assets, 24/7 global order book liquidity, real-time settlement and API connectivity. Coinbase Australia Pty Ltd, holder of AFSL No. 569752 and an AUSTRAC-registered virtual asset service provider and remittance service provider, said the contracts are designed for hedging, volatility trading and capital-efficient strategies. The launch comes as Australia moves digital asset platforms into its financial services regime under the Corporations Amendment (Digital Assets Framework) Act 2026, which is due to take effect in April 2027, and Coinbase warned that derivatives trading can result in the loss of a customer's entire account balance.
