The exchange's agreement with Gelephu Mindfulness City is an initial step toward a local entity and license application as Bhutan's $100 billion zone adds crypto partners including 3iQ.
Bitget has signed an agreement with Bhutan's Gelephu Mindfulness City Authority that opens a path for the exchange to seek a financial services license in the autonomous economic zone, though the arrangement remains exploratory and any local legal presence or regulated launch would still require approval. The deal fits Bitget's market-by-market licensing strategy and comes as GMC accelerates its digital-asset buildout under a regulatory structure separate from Bhutan's national framework. Days earlier, the city appointed Canadian digital asset manager 3iQ to oversee an undisclosed portion of Bitcoin from its treasury earmarked for development, while also committing to a long-term presence and local training. GMC is a planned $100 billion zone backed in part by Bhutan's national Bitcoin reserves and is trying to attract finance, technology and wellness businesses.
