Large bitcoin holders kept adding to positions while smaller wallets sold at the fastest pace since December 2024, as U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs extended a run of net inflows.
Bitcoin traded in the $63,000 to $65,000 range as large holders continued to accumulate and U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs stayed in positive territory. Santiment said whales and sharks kept increasing their holdings, while micro holders cut exposure at the fastest pace since December 2024, extending a split that emerged around the Coldcard hardware wallet security incident and amid uncertainty over the CLARITY Act. The analytics firm said steady buying by key stakeholders, alongside continued retail selling and sideways price action, has raised the odds of bitcoin moving above $70,000 rather than falling below $60,000. CoinMetrics also recorded a temporary rise in BTC held on exchanges during the Coldcard fallout. On the institutional side, U.S.-based spot Bitcoin ETFs posted a fourth straight day of inflows on Aug. 6, taking in nearly $129 million, led by BlackRock's IBIT at $123 million and Fidelity's ETF at $11.2 million, despite outflows from VanEck's HODL and Valkyrie's BRRR. The latest run pushed monthly net inflows to almost $755 million.
