The potential acquisition would mark a significant AI expansion for the fintech company as it moves beyond payments infrastructure, with terms still subject to change, The Information reported.
Stripe is in exclusive talks to acquire OpenRouter at a valuation of about $10 billion, a deal that would rank among the fintech company's more significant recent moves into AI. The Information reported that the transaction has not been finalized and the terms could still change. Stripe has previously focused on payments infrastructure, financial services and enterprise software, but buying the model aggregator platform could deepen its push into AI developer infrastructure. Founded in 2023, OpenRouter connects users to multiple large language models through a unified interface, letting developers access models from OpenAI, Anthropic and Google and choose among them based on performance, price and availability. People familiar with the matter said the startup had previously drawn acquisition interest from several large technology companies before Stripe advanced to the exclusive stage.
