Base app broadens beyond Coinbase blockchain under new leader Jordan Fish

Jesse Pollak said the trading app is adding assets and features from other networks as he shifts attention to the Base chain’s push into tokenization, payments, financing and trading.

Summary

Coinbase’s Base app is moving away from being primarily a showcase for the Base blockchain as new leader Jordan "Cobie" Fish steers it toward a broader crypto trading platform, according to Base creator Jesse Pollak. Pollak said the app can already trade assets across most crypto ecosystems and is rolling out products including prediction markets and perpetual futures. He said Fish, who joined Coinbase after its acquisition of Echo for about $375 million last year, is focused on building the strongest trading product, while Pollak concentrates on the underlying Base network. Pollak said the chain is seeing growing demand across tokenization, trading, payments and financing, with about $5 billion in decentralized finance deposits and more than $1 billion in daily trading volume. He also called new blockchain infrastructure efforts by Robinhood, Stripe and others a validation of Base’s strategy and said the industry remains early in a longer effort to reshape the global financial system.
