Cryptocurrency thefts have surged in 2025, with over $2.17 billion stolen in the first half, driven by the Bybit hack and a rise in personal wallet attacks.
Chainalysis reports that cryptocurrency services have experienced over $2.17 billion in thefts in 2025, significantly surpassing 2024 totals. North Korea's $1.5 billion hack of Bybit accounts for the majority of losses. If trends continue, total thefts may exceed $4 billion by year-end, with personal wallet thefts increasing to 23.35% of all incidents.
