Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong recounted meeting Vitalik Buterin at the 2013 San Jose Bitcoin Conference and inviting him to Coinbase. Due to U.S. visa issues, Buterin returned to Canada, where he subsequently created Ethereum. Armstrong noted that the U.S. immigration system may have influenced Ethereum's inception.
