According to team lead Davide Crapis, the Foundation’s new AI initiative responds to ecosystem demand, with an initial focus on ERC-8004 to enable trustless AI agent coordination on Ethereum.
The Ethereum Foundation officially announced the launch of its decentralized AI (dAI) team, led by Davide Crapis. The initiative was not part of Ethereum’s original roadmap but emerged from ecosystem demand. The team will operate across both the protocol and ecosystem divisions, focusing on developing AI products and onboarding traditional AI developers. Its short-term roadmap centers on ERC-8004, a proposal co-authored by Crapis, MetaMask AI lead Marco De Rossi, and OpenAI’s Jordan Ellis, aimed at establishing a trustless mechanism for discovering and interacting with AI agents. The dAI team will also publish a detailed roadmap later in 2025. Initial staffing includes Crapis, an AI product manager, and an AI researcher, working alongside Ethereum protocol teams.
