Secretary Besant selects five contenders for Fed chair, with further interviews planned before presenting a shortlist to President Trump.
The US Treasury, under Secretary Besant, has narrowed the Federal Reserve chair candidate pool from 11 to 5 after extensive interviews. The finalists are Vice Chair Bowman, Governor Waller, National Economic Council Director Hassett, former Fed Governor Walsh, and BlackRock CIO Rick Rieder. Another round of interviews will take place after Thanksgiving, after which Besant intends to deliver a shorter list to President Trump. The chosen nominee may first serve as a Fed governor before being considered for the chair role.
