The European Central Bank announced on October 29 that it will advance the digital euro project to its final stage before the planned 2029 rollout, responding to the European Council’s request for faster development. President Christine Lagarde confirmed that this phase will complete preparations for the central bank digital currency. Earlier, Governing Council member Fabio Panetta noted that adoption costs would be low, reinforcing the ECB’s readiness to proceed swiftly.
