The fast-food chain will channel all Bitcoin payments into a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve, pairing rewards promotions with expanded Lightning Network payment use across 1,200 locations.
Steak ’n Shake has announced the creation of a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve, the first by a major restaurant chain, with all Bitcoin payments directed into this reserve. The company will donate 210 sats from each Bitcoin Meal sold to Open Sats Initiative, Inc. over the next year. Partnering with Fold Holdings, Steak ’n Shake is offering $5 in Bitcoin to customers registering a Bitcoin Steakburger via the Fold app. This nationwide promotion spans over 1,200 locations and marks the first U.S. restaurant menu item tied to Bitcoin rewards, coinciding with the 17th anniversary of the Bitcoin white paper. Building on prior Lightning Network payment integration, executive Dan Edwards noted that one in 500 global Bitcoin transactions occurred at Steak ’n Shake’s launch day, cutting processing fees by 50% and boosting sales. The company reports a sustained sales spike since adopting Bitcoin and plans further investment in tech innovation.
