Ontology Community Approves ONG Supply Cap Reduction to 800 Million

A majority vote of 117 million supports cutting the Ontology Gas token cap, with changes effective in mainnet version 3.0.0 from December 1, 2025.

The Ontology blockchain community voted in favor, with 117 million votes, to reduce the maximum supply of Ontology Gas (ONG) tokens from 1 billion to 800 million. The decision also includes locking 100 million ONG-equivalent ONT–ONG assets. According to founder Li Jun, the change aims to ensure a predictable token release schedule and long-term network sustainability. This update will take effect with the launch of Ontology mainnet version 3.0.0 on December 1, 2025.
