Aztec Network’s Ignition Chain goes live as Ethereum’s first fully decentralized Layer-2, combining zero-knowledge proofs with scalable privacy while reaching a key benchmark of 500 active validators.
Aztec Network has officially launched the Ignition Chain on Ethereum’s mainnet, marking the debut of the first fully decentralized Layer-2 protocol. The Ignition Chain integrates zero-knowledge proofs to deliver private and scalable blockchain transactions, enabling developers to build confidential DeFi applications. The network reached 500 validators at launch, a critical threshold for decentralization and security, and allows anyone to become a validator or sequencer by staking AZTEC tokens, with early participants receiving bonuses. A public AZTEC token auction is set for December 2, 2025. This milestone represents a significant step toward making decentralized privacy infrastructure a core part of Ethereum’s ecosystem.
