On Dec. 17, Bhutan announced it will contribute up to 10,000 BTC, valued at approximately ¥134 billion, to support the long-term development of Gelephu Mindfulness City in its planned special administrative region. The government will decide over the coming months how to use the Bitcoin, including potential deployment as collateral for financing. The pledge builds on its existing Bitcoin Development Strategy, which leverages hydropower-based mining and long-term holding of BTC to generate value for youth-focused growth and urban development.
