MoMA expanded its permanent collection on December 20 with donated CryptoPunks and Chromie Squiggles, highlighting the museum's embrace of blockchain-based digital art.
On December 20, the Museum of Modern Art in New York added eight CryptoPunks and eight Chromie Squiggles NFTs to its permanent collection through donations from creators and collectors. CryptoPunks, created in 2017 by LarvaLabs, are among the earliest notable NFTs, while Chromie Squiggles are a generative art series by Art Blocks founder Erick Calderon. The acquisition underscores MoMA’s commitment to preserving blockchain-based art within its institutional holdings.
