Lugano residents can now pay municipal taxes, fines, and invoices directly in Bitcoin or USDT, with instant conversion to Swiss francs, expanding the city's crypto integration under Plan ₿.
Lugano, Switzerland, has expanded its Plan ₿ initiative with Tether to allow residents to pay municipal taxes, fines, and city invoices in Bitcoin or USDT. Payments are instantly converted into Swiss francs, making settlement straightforward for city accounting. The new capability builds on Lugano's existing network of over 350 merchants and public services accepting crypto via the Bitcoin Lightning Network, which offers sub-1% transaction fees compared to around 3% for credit cards. QR code-based payments provide convenience, and this update further embeds cryptocurrency use into both retail and municipal infrastructure.
