On January 4, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that U.S. forces had seized a fortified Caracas military base, captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, and fully suppressed Venezuelan forces. Trump also said he plans to bring major U.S. oil firms to invest billions of dollars in rebuilding Venezuela’s oil industry. Maduro, during his presidency, had launched the Petro cryptocurrency with a total issuance of 100 million tokens to circumvent U.S. economic sanctions.
