Ethereum Foundation researcher Justin Drake announced the creation of a post-quantum team on January 24, aiming to address quantum computing threats and achieve full operational capacity by 2026.
On January 24, 2025, Ethereum Foundation researcher Justin Drake revealed the formation of a post-quantum team to counter quantum computing risks, marking post-quantum security as the organization’s top strategic priority. The team, led by Thomas Coratger and backed by cryptographer Emile, plans to move from research to engineering, with full operations targeted for 2026. The foundation has allocated $2 million toward cryptography awards and community events, including biweekly developer meetings, multi-client testnets, and initiatives such as the Poseidon Prize and Proximity Prize. Additional events include a dedicated post-quantum event in October and a post-quantum day in March, underscoring Ethereum’s proactive approach to ensuring blockchain resilience.
