Reports indicate a UAE royal-linked firm acquired nearly half of WLFI for $500M, prompting scrutiny over foreign stakes in politically connected crypto ventures; Trump insists he was uninformed.
President Donald Trump denied knowledge of a reported $500 million investment from Aryam Investment 1, a firm linked to Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, into World Liberty Financial (WLFI), a cryptocurrency venture tied to his family. The deal allegedly involved a 49% stake purchase, with about $250 million initially transferred, including $187 million to Trump-linked entities and $31 million to WLFI cofounders. Lawmakers from both parties have requested briefings and possible regulatory inquiries, citing ethical concerns over foreign investments tied to a sitting President’s business. Trump emphasized that his sons manage the venture’s affairs and that he had no personal role in the transaction.
